New Payment Option at Ikea saves time and nerves

The Swedish furniture store Ikea is now offering a new payment method throughout Germany that saves one thing above all – time. However, if you want to use it, you need a smartphone.

“Shop & Go” is what the new way of paying for purchases at Ikea is called. The furniture store uses the help of customers and the own in-house app, allowing everyone to pass the checkout faster and more conveniently. So this might be the end of long waiting lines.

According to a survey by Statista, Ikea is the most popular furniture store in Germany. In 2021, the company had a total of around 32 million customers in more than 50 furniture stores across Germany. It is therefore particularly important for the shopping experience to avoid long waiting times at the checkouts. So far, Ikea has settled purchases either via normal checkouts with salespeople or via express checkouts, where customers have to scan themselves. The process is the same for both. Each product must be retrieved from the cart at the checkout and scanned to determine the total bill of the purchase. But with “Shop & Go” there is now a new payment method at Ikea that saves you this step.

Thanks to “Shop & Go”, customers can now scan their purchases at Ikea as soon as they take them off the shelf and put them in the shopping cart. To do this, they need a smartphone and the Ikea app, which is available free of charge for Android and iPhone. From the products scanned in this way, the app creates a QR code that customers only have to scan later at the express checkout. The advantage here is that customers do not have to take their goods out of the shopping cart individually again, as they have already completed this step when the products landed in the cart.

Before Ikea introduced “Shop & Go” in all of its branches in Germany, the furniture chain had already tested the new payment method in selected stores. The locations Berlin Tempelhof, Dresden, Karlsruhe as well as Hamburg Moorflett and Frankfurt Nieder-Eschbach were there. The test phase started there at the end of last year and was successfully completed. “Shop & Pay” is now available in all Ikea branches throughout Germany.

Good News right? Shorter waiting times means you can have your Hot Dog earlier now.

LEGO is releasing 3 Star Wars Dioramas

LEGO seems to get right what most of the adult Star Wars series buyers want. They want something for their display, not for playing. So Lego finally is getting it right with releasing three Dioramas. Hopefully this will be just the start of a bigger series. But as of now there is no indication that more sets are coming.

1. Death Star Trash Compactor

The first step in the new collection is the 802-piece, 89,99€ Lego Star Wars Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama that recreates the tense moment when Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia find themselves in one of the space station’s trash compactors after springing the princess from her detention cell. The diorama includes a bunch of trash (random Lego parts), a Dianoga’s head popping up, and even moving walls so you can choose a different fate for everyone than what played out in A New Hope.

2. Dagoba Jed Training Diorama

The second set, and the largest of the three is the Lego Star Wars Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama, and while it’s assembled from 1,000 pieces it’s slightly cheaper than the Trash Compactor set at 79,99€. Details include the exposed wing of an X-wing sunken into the swamp, Yoda’s hut and the Jedi Master himself, Luke practicing a hand stand, and a filthed up R2-D2 who would probably be much happier back on an Imperial Star Destroyer.

3. Death Star Trench Run Diorama

The Lego Star Wars Death Star Trench Run Diorama is the smallest and cheapest, but also easily the most dynamic and exciting of the bunch. The 665-piece set will sell for 59,99€ and features Luke’s X-wing being pursued by a trio of TIE Fighters, including Vader’s, through one of the Death Star’s trenches. The extensive detailing and greebling alone makes this one a must-have.
